ROPA Tiger 6S and Volvo Penta D16
Since 2016, ROPA has been using powerful, reliable motors from Volvo Penta for its sugar beet harvesters. Thanks to the longstanding partnership, the motor manufacturer shot an episode of the Mighty Jobs videos, which reveals the successful interplay between the innovative technologies of Volvo Penta and the efficiency of ROPA machines.
Given the close partnership and cooperation, the idea arose to plan an episode of the Mighty Jobs series together with ROPA. For this, Volvo sent its professional film team from Sweden and engaged the moderator Lacey Rose from Canada, who is involved in forestry as well as shooting videos.
A detailed screenplay was created to provide extensive insight into the cooperation between ROPA and Volvo Penta. The videos are supposed to present the many applications of their drives, illuminating both the machines and also the people and how they use the machines.
The video was shot in the plant in Sittelsdorf and during sugar beet harvesting on surrounding fields. This way, viewers get insight into how the motors are assembled, the areas of application for Tiger and Panther in the field, and the design and planning of the machines.
The Volvo Penta Motor TWD1683VE with 796 PS / 585 kW is the ideal complement to the ROPA machines since it was developed especially for these models. Given its individual design and outstanding service, as well as the strong cooperation between Volvo Penta and ROPA, this motor perfectly suits ROPA's requirements and needs. The Tiger 6Sd motor, with a displacement of 16.12 liters and common rail injection offers efficient energy thanks to the SCR catalytic converter and AdBlue. With doubled turbocharging, it generates a maximum torque of 3650 Nm. Starting at 1000 rpm, it provides 3550 Nm, which means that you can harvest longer in the lower speed range and therefore save more fuel. Thanks to the modern engine technology, this diesel engine also complies with the European exhaust stage V without exhaust gas recirculation.
The pictures attracted great attention not just where the video was shot, but also in ROPA's production. Cotton candy was supposed to start things off to lead to the topic of sugar beets. But how is it supposed to be available fresh from the field? To make this possible, the Mandelbrennerei Müller visited us; for years, they have been part of our open house, where they make delicious cotton candy on-site. This spontaneous action led to another "behind the scenes" video.
But not everything went smoothly. For example, a camera fell off the lifting unit during harvesting and was picked up by the Tiger together with the sugar beets. Thanks to the accident, however, we got valuable pictures of harvesting, from the cleaning unit to the bunker filling.
Production of the videos offered not just fascinating insight into the cooperation between ROPA and Volvo Penta, it also guaranteed the team extensive insight into the videographic design of both companies' powers of innovation.
