Due to its size and number of inhabitants, China is an important sugar producer. The main region for sugar beet cultivation is Northern China, with the provinces Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia.
There, in an area of approximately 200,000 ha, sugar beets are cultivated. In the 2020/2021 season, sugar beet production in China was about 1.5 million t.
The ROPA logos display the ROPA service locations in China. The red pins mark the various sugar beet cultivation areas in the country.
ROPA's first sugar beet harvesters were sent to China in 2010; in the year after that, another five sugar beet harvesters. Due to the good experiences, the number of machines increased continuously. Currently, more than 100 ROPA Tiger and cleaner-loaders are in use in China. More machines will follow this campaign. 16 machines are working in Southern Xinjiang for the Aoudu Sugar Factory. In the Xinjiang area marked in green, there are 35 ROPA Tiger and 33 ROPA loaders in use; there are more in Inner Mongolia.
In Inner Mongolia (marked in blue), especially in the Hailaer/Eerguna region, the season lasts just 15-20 days. In the Hailaer region, with cultivation of 20,000 ha, the sugar beets are harvested from the middle to the end of September.
Due to the very short campaign, the Tigers and loaders are driven for harvesting on trucks and low-bed trucks and retrieved after that – the distance one-way is 5,000 km!
ROPA China with three additional sales and service partners
ROPA China was founded in 2018 as a subsidiary of ROPA Sittelsdorf. With a strong service team, additional sales and service partners were established and their teams trained in the technology. During the campaign, the ROPA China team assists service partners directly on-site for customers or in case of special questions. ROPA China has an extensive selection of spare parts, where large parts and service parts for all eventualities are kept.
Customers receive expensive support from 3 additional sales and service partners:
• AINONG MASAI in Beijing in Inner Mongolia and Hebei
• TOPSUN in Urumqi / North Xinjiang
• GREENFOOD in South Xinjiang
Customers in China are relying ever more on used machines from ROPA
Although in the early years mostly new machines were ordered, in recent years, there has been a palpable trend toward the purchase of used machines.
Meanwhile, the technology is familiar, the drivers are accustomed to the machines, and the trained service technicians have a lot of experience in handling the machines. Especially with regard to reliability, the expectations of the technology have been exceeded significantly and customers are happy to purchase used machines as well. The main reason is the reliability and quick amortization.
With an average harvest area of 400 to 500 ha per machine, a used machine in China pays off within a short time and creates additional liquidity for further investments. The drivers appreciate the ease of maintenance and the simple operation.
