Open House 2018 at the ROPA location in Viersen-Boisheim

Potato and sugar beet harvesting at the same time in a field near the plant premises - this was the premiere at the demonstration and location opening of ROPA Rhineland. More than 5000 enthusiastic visitors experienced the practical demonstration up-close in the field directly adjacent to the 2.5 ha premises of ROPA Rhineland. Several sugar beet harvesters, ROPA Maus 5 and various potato harvesters were working simultaneously in the field. A particular highlight was the plant premiere of the Keiler 2L 2-row potato harvester with 5.5 t overloading bunker. Non-stop harvesting with simultaneous overloading on a trailer driving alongside enables significantly increased performance.

In the bright sunshine, several thousand visitors accepted ROPA's invitation to Viersen-Boisheim. Many thanks to farmer Manfred Brasseler, who prepared his field directly adjacent to the plant gates of ROPA Rhineland and made it available to us. Due to the extremely dry conditions in 2018, the harvest was meager and the harvesting conditions extremely dry and dusty.

Greetings at the location opening event

At the beginning of the event, Managing Director Dr. Eberhard Krayl and the Paintner family greeted visitors to the festively decorated plant halls. He reported about the new location of ROPA Rhineland, informed guests of current events within the company and gave some brief insight into technical innovations.

Innovations and technology demonstrations

Sugar Beet Technology

Michael Gruber (sugar beet technology area manager) presented the latest developments by ROPA for sugar beet harvesting with the Tiger 6 and Panther 2. The heart of both sugar beet lifters is the new 700 hp or 768 hp engine with pump-nozzle injection and 16.12 litre capacity.ROPA has won the Red Dot Design Award 2018 for outstanding product design with the Tiger 6. For removing leaves from sugar beets, ROPA offers a choice between the Micro-Topper and defoliator with two cleaning shafts running in opposite directions. The ROPA Maus 5 is fitted with the widest pickup system on the market and has numerous practical equipment options.

Potato Technology

Dr. Rupert Geischeder (area manager for potato technology) reported on the latest developments, practical experience and the unique selling points of the ROPA potato lifter. Among other things, the new Keiler 2L is presented with overloading bunker. The ROPA Keiler 2L is a 2-row trailed potato harvester with a 5.5 t overloading bunker. As well as new details, the Keiler 2L has just like the well-proven Keiler 2 a fully hydraulic drive for optimal adjustment for cleaning. The Keiler 2L operates independently of the PTO speed and thus maintains all cleaning units in the optimal speed range.

Potato harvesting demonstration

ROPA Keiler 2L

A particular highlight was the plant premiere of the Keiler 2L 2-row potato harvester with 5.5 t overloading bunker. Non-stop harvesting with simultaneous overloading on a trailer driving alongside enables significantly increased performance.

As well as new details, the Keiler 2L has just like the well-proven Keiler 2 a fully hydraulic drive for optimal adjustment for cleaning.

Sensor-controlled filling of the bunker for optimal utilization of the bunker volume. The sequential discharge of the bunker contents onto the unloading conveyor in combination with the telescopic axle increases driving stability in the field and makes it easier for the driver. The 3-way foldable unloading conveyor enables flexible and comfortable unloading. This allows to achieve an overloading height of 3.5 m with an immersion depth of 600 mm into the trailer and a maximum unloading height of 4.10 m without any problems or product damage.

ROPA Keiler 2

The ROPA Keiler 2 is a 2-row trailed potato harvester with approx. 7.5 t bunker. As well as new details, the Keiler 2 and the Keiler 2L has a fully hydraulic drive for optimal cleaning adjustment. The Keiler 2 operates independently of the PTO speed and thus maintains all cleaning units in the optimal speed range. The result is reduced fuel consumption with reduced tractor engine speed.

ROPA Keiler 1

The ROPA Keiler 1 is a one-row trailed potato harvester with a 6 t bunker. The Keiler 1 has been specifically designed for customers with increased demands for the highest quality (ware potato) and, at the same time, thorough and extremely gentle cleaning and excellent haulm separation. The load-sensing hydraulics enable fully hydraulic adjustment of the speed of all cleaning components, particularly sieving conveyors and leaf chain.

Demonstration of sugar beet harvesting

ROPA Panther 2

The ROPA Panther 2 is the top performer among two-axle sugar beet harvesters. Sporty modern design with manoeuvrability and agility combines with a "workhorse" in the new Panther 2 for pure pleasure when lifting beets. There are sufficient power reserves for the most extreme lifting conditions, and using XL lifting attachment demonstrates the centrepiece of it all: the new 700 hp or 768 hp Volvo inline engine with pump-nozzle injection and 16.12 litre capacity. The award winning and soil-protecting chassis system with roll stabilisation and automatic slope compensation have been flawlessly integrated into the new machine design. The unloading conveyor derived from the Tiger 6 with a more powerful hopper emptying facilitates quicker loading during the drive.

ROPA Tiger 6

ROPA has won the Red Dot Design Award 2018 for outstanding product design with the Tiger 6, the world's most powerful sugar beet harvester. The Red Dot is an award for high quality of design combined with practical innovation.

The heart of the machine is the new 700 hp or 768 hp engine with pump-nozzle injection and 16.12 litre capacity. The additional power in comparison to the Tiger 5 is up to 142 PS/105 kW.

The new machine design has perfectly integrated the drive system with automatic slope compensation, which is extremely gentle on the soil. The more powerful bunker-emptying mechanism provides faster truck loading on the move. The comfort cabin with glass touch terminal, WLAN interface and numerous automatic programmes offers top driving comfort for the best lifting results.

euro-Tiger V8-4 with rubber-defoliator

The ROPA euro-Tiger V8-4 is considered one of the most reliable root crop bunkers in the world. The power transfer from the 440 kW (598 hp) engine (Mercedes Benz V8 with SCR catalytic converter and AdBlue) of the euro-Tiger V8-4 is more efficient with significantly reduced fuel consumption and greater torque.

Totally, 264 cleaning rubbers are installed in the rubber defoliator in combination with steel tractor blades. Two rotating in opposite directions rubber cleaning shafts remove the leaves from the sugar beet crowns. Each rotor shaft can be adjusted at the height independently from the other. As a result, the operator can react quickly and effectively to different requirements due to changing beet crops. Generally, with respect to rubber defoliator technology, this leads to improvement of the performance quality and cleaning results and more careful beet treatment at the same time.

Our special thanks to the contractor Draack for lending us its ROPA Tiger for the demonstration.

ROPA Maus 5

The Maus 5 is impressive with the redesigned R-Concept cabin. The overall design that combines capacity and efficiency with the 10.2 m wide pickup system and offers practice-oriented developments with the latest technical innovations. The counterweight arm, over 9 metres long, guarantees absolute stability even with the truck loader at maximum width. For road drive the complete machine folds in automatically to a road width of 3.00 m and a total length of only 14.97 m with just one operating element in the cabin.

Many thanks to the team from Maschinenring Rheinland-Ost for the Maus loading in the course of the demonstration with their "racing" Maus 5

ROPA Rhineland is an official service and sales partner for the entire Bijlsma Hercules product line.

From the Keiler to the trough and then into storage. In the process of the demonstration, fall shelters, transfer conveyors and box fillers were demonstrated in practical application.

Festival hall, brass band music and food trucks

In addition to the demonstration, ROPA's "togetherness" was prominently featured. Visitors to the festive plant halls had ample time to discuss ideas. Visitors' physical well-being was ensured with various delicacies, coffee and cake and a driver's bar.

Musical entertainment was provided by the young, Lower Bavarian band Containerblech.

Children's play area with numerous attractions

A colourful children's program ensured that the "little farmers" were entertained in the attractively decorated service center.

Due to the numerous attractions, such as a bouncy castle, face-painting, a slide and pedal tractor course, etc., some parents "had" to remain longer at ROPA Rhineland than they had originally intended.

Machine show and trade exhibition with technology companies and plant breeders

In the course of the event, visitors were offered an interesting range of activities such as warehouse tours, fan shop, machine exhibition, used machine display, demonstration of potato storage techniques and a trade exhibition with technology companies, plant breeders and much more.

The new ROPA collection was presented in the ROPA fan shop. ROPA quilted vests, quilted jackets, hoodies, shirts and the new caps were hot items.
